As an alumnus of SGU, you can doubtless appreciate the unique experience and role that a successful alumnus can play for existing students.   Those of us who are older graduates remember a school and environment that was very different and more adventurous than is the case today. It was precisely the overcoming of adverse conditions by our early graduates which formed the foundation of strength that has turned the school into the success that it is today.

More recent graduates will agree that SGU, perhaps better than any other institution of its type, is a true reflection of the new global realities of world medicine.   The one thing that has not changed is the positive impact that you as a successful alumnus can have on our students as a role model.

As we strive to build bridges between our students and alumni, we have developed an Alumni Grand Rounds program, in which visiting alumni are asked to deliver a special "Grand Rounds” lecture that the entire general student body can attend.

You have much to share and much to give. Each "Grand Round" comprises an informal talk lasting approximately one hour in duration.  Presentations are divided into three parts:

Devote the first third to describing yourself, your medical school experience, why you went into medicine, what you are getting out of if, obstacles, solutions, etc.

Describe your specialty, area of interest, research, etc. You can be broad or specific, but please do keep in mind the academic level of the students. ·

Link your work and activities into the bigger picture of global medicine. Perhaps this might not be your forte, but I am sure that you will be able to make the connections. These may include disease patterns, research trends, economic trends, cultural approaches etc.   ·

Don’t forget to leave time for questions, answers, and discussions!

If you will be on campus in the near future, and would like to host an Alumni Grand Round, please indicate your interest on the form below or contact our Alumni Relations Office staff, Rona and Tonya, who will arrange a date, time and location for you to meet with the students that is convenient for you. The Grand Round  will be publicized via student email, and other channels, announcing your visit to them as a visiting alumnus.
