Interested in Getting Involved or Giving Back?

Thank you for your interest in supporting our current students.  We have various options available for alumni involvement with their Alma Mater, and we are continually working on other ways to get our alumni to be a part of SGU life.  Here are some options that may appeal to you, or you may have other ideas of how you want to contribute. Either way, please contact our office (alumnirelationsoffice@sgu.edu) and we will be happy to assist you.

ALUMNI CONFERENCE RECEPTIONS

For the upcoming academic year, the Alumni Association in conjunction with our office, will be hosting complimentary alumni receptions at various key medical conferences across the US (e.g. ACEP).  The receptions are open to conference attendees and alumni living in the region.  We hope to meet with alumni like you to discuss ways you can get involved with your Alma Mater, and how we can better support you as you build your career.  If you are attending one of these conferences, or live in the area and would like to help us with the reception, please let us know.  We would appreciate any help – spreading the word to your colleagues, giving out alumni swag, welcoming attendees, or just being there. Please check out this year’s Calendar of Events for information or to RSVP.

SOM ALUMNI CME & REUNION GRENADA

In the time since you left the island, SGU has grown tremendously and we are truly proud of the hard work that you, and your colleagues have put in to make SGU a global force in providing quality medical education.  The SOMAA Annual CME and Reunion allows our grads to reconnect with each other, rediscover their Alma Mater and meet current students, while earning some credits. We are always looking for speakers, and volunteers to reach out to colleagues.  Come back to Grenada, see how SGU has grown, and meet the students who are now where you once were – you wouldn’t regret it! For more information, visit www.sgualumni.org

ALUMNI GRAND ROUNDS

At the present time, we have an informal program called “Alumni Grand Rounds” where alumni who are already visiting the island are invited to volunteer an hour to speak with students about their experiences.  Visiting alumni can tailor their talk to a general audience, or to a specific club on campus. Please let us know when you’ll be on island and we can set this up.

SGU PHYSICIAN HUMANITARIAN PROGRAM (SGU PHuN)

SGUSOM grads know how to have PHuN! By that we mean that many of our grads give back to the Grenadian community using their time, talent and treasure.  Over the past 12+ years, our grads have conducted numerous clinics, specialty operations, educational CMEs for local medical professionals, and continue to do so every year. If medical missions are your passion, the Grenadian community welcomes your contributions, and our Office of Institutional Advancement will work with you to get started. Contact Brendon La Grenade (blagrenade@sgu.edu) to get more information.

RECRUITING/INTERVIEWING/CAMPUS FAIRS FOR PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS

If you are interested in working with prospective students, for example recruiting, interviews, campus fairs and mentoring, please fill out the Alumni Admissions Mentor Program (AAMP) application indicating your interest(s) and a member of our Admissions team will contact you to follow up.  For more information, please contact Josh Fein (jfein@sgu.edu / 631-655-8500 x 1482).

CAREER GUIDANCE FOR CLINICAL STUDENTS

Do you work at an SGUSOM affiliated hospital and have an interest in working with our clinical students?  The Office of Career Guidance and Student Development (OCGSD) can provide you with the information needed to help here.  Alumnus and Director of the OCGSD, Dr. John Madden (jmadden@sgu.edu / 631-655-8500 x 1499) may be contacted directly with any questions, or we can do the introduction.

VISITING PROFESSORS

The previous Visiting Lecturer program has been discontinued, but the SVM and SOM are still open to utilizing visiting professors on an individual basis.  Inquiries will be re-directed to the Dean Basic Sciences Office for SOM or the Dean Veterinary Medicine for SVM.  Please let us know if this appeals to you, and we would be happy to put  you in contact with the appropriate person/s.
